The Covenant House NYC
While spending time at the Covenant House in NYC, I have witnessed the love and devotion of staff and the appreciation and efforts of young people who have experienced homelessness and sorrow. Bringing yoga to this community and to others seems like good way to help support those in need financially and spiritually.
In 2007 NYCDOE PE Teachers
are certified through Yoga Alliance
to teach yoga in their schools.

Maher
In 1997, Sister Lucy Kurien created a safe-home in a rural village outside Pune, India. All women were welcome there anytime for any reason. Sr. Lucy, a Catholic nun from rural Kerala, India, was responding to a dire need for crisis support for women in the area. She established, Maher, meaning Mother's Home in Marathi, as interfaith and caste-free.

Maher soon added nurturing homes for children and disabled adults, and extensive community outreach aimed at dismantling poverty and oppression. Their grassroots community projects are widely varied. Maher serves tens of thousands of people in seven Indian states.
The >1500 residents of Maher's 68 loving homes, children elderly, and disabled adults are holistically nurtured to thrive. Children attend local schools and they are offered after school activities.
Maher is led with values of financial integrity, ecological sustainability and equality of all people. Sr. Lucy remains as Director leading a robust, dedicated team of hundreds serving their communities. She has received numerous international awards including India's Mother Teresa award.
During our visit to Maher, we were amazed by the love, dedication, and humility of Sister Lucy and staff of Maher, sleeping amongst those whom they serve. We have been honored and blessed with Sister's visits to Staten Island during her international tours. Friends and family who have met her agree that She exemplifies a spiritual leader of our time.
